Captive insurance industry news | Mosaic Insurance opens new Singapore office and bolsters APAC team

Mosaic Insurance has opened an office in Singapore and hired two dedicated underwriters to build its transactional liability business across the APAC region.

Benn Wilson will serve as regional CEO and Asia head for Mosaic’s transactional liability division, while Edwin Chau is appointed transactional responsibility manager.

Wilson specializes in the M&A insurance sector. Prior to joining the industry in 2015, he was a private and corporate M&A attorney for Ashurst LLP and internal counsel for telecom company Ooredoo.

In addition to managing transactional liability, Chau will focus on growing the company’s M&A insurance business across the region.

Prior to Mosaic, Chau spent three years at AIG, where he was responsible for transactional liability insurance underwriting in the region. Previously, he was a director on Aon’s transaction risk team for over six years.

Underwriting for the Mosaic platform in Singapore was provided by the company’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 1609, managed by Asta Managing Agency. Services company Asta, founded on the Lloyd’s Asia platform in Singapore, supports Mosaic with underwriting supervision and regulatory compliance services.

Mosaic’s new office marks the eighth since the company launched in February 2021.

The specialty insurer focuses on seven lines of business: transactional liability, cyberspace, financial institutions, professional liability, political violence, political risk and environmental responsibility.

David White, director of underwriting at Mosaic, said: “Our Singapore office, under Benn’s leadership, enhances the global underwriting access we have built to date and Lloyd’s platform allows us to leverage relevant licenses and respected ratings to accelerate growth. business.”

Wilson added: “Singapore is an ideal location to build an Asian business, as it is a major regional hub for specialty insurance and, in particular, for the transactional liability market.”
