PUNE: A 35-year-old engineer working with a leading car company was conned by Rs 1.32 lakh cyber criminals on December 4 last year, when he attempted to shut down his service credit card issued by foreign banks.
Cyber ​​criminals obtained his credit card information under the pretext of closing the card and made three transactions using the details he provided.
The fraud occurred on December 4 last year. The man has filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell Pimpi Chinchwad POLICE. After the initial investigation, a case was registered with chinchwad police on Monday.
An officer from Chinchwad police told TOI that the complainant wanted to close his credit card service. “The complainant told us that he had searched the internet for the bank’s customer service number. The person on the other end took some card details and then told the complainant to download the remote access app on his mobile. However the complainant refused to download the app,” the officer said.
After that, the man ordered the reporter to share the one time password (OTP) that the reporter received on his cell phone. “That’s what the reporter said OTPhe found that three transactions worth Rs 1.32 lakh were made using his credit card,” the officer added.
